Hochzeit in Greifensee und Schaffhausen

Last winter, I was particularly impressed by one local Winterthur couple who came to visit and talk about their plans for a wedding in Greifensee and reception dinner in Schaffhausen. Photography was perhaps the most important wedding service to Katja and Mario, and I was honored that they choose me as their wedding photographer.

In the springtime, we rendezvoused in downtown Winterthur and had a great time shooting engagement photos. We found some terrific backgrounds at the coin museum on Museumstrasse downtown. The couple really took advantage of the engagement shoot by producing the coolest wedding invitations I’ve ever heard of. As die-hard Swiss Air fans (they met while working at the airline), they created wedding invitations in the form of Swiss Air boarding passes. The photos from our engagement shoot fit perfectly with their design.

When it came to the wedding, their attention to details and excellent planning really paid off. We had a really successful portrait shoot in Greifensee before heading into the Reformierte Kirche for their ceremony. One of my favorite shots from their wedding is a panoramic stitch that I took from the back of the church looking forward towards the bride and groom up front. After an Apero in front of the church, the couple drove in their one-of-a-kind Swiss Air Smart Car to the evening venue. Little did they know that there would be a surprise stop on the way to their reception.

Because the couple had planned not to do a wedding dance, their maid of honor and best man planned a very clever joke on them so that they would be forced to dance together as husband and wife. I don’t think I’ll be able to do justice to this hilarious performance with words, but I hope that the pictures will somehow explain it. A friend - playing a Orthodox Catholic Priest, insisted that without a wedding dance the legitimacy of the marriage was in question. Out came a pair of professional dance instructors for a brief walz lesson, and minutes later the bride and groom were shuffling elegantly across an improvised gravel dance floor. The evening went on perfectly. A very intimate dinner at Schloss Laufen (directly above the Rheinfall) was followed by a private boat tour which took the guests out to see the Schaffhausen fireworks show. It was a fabulously planned and perfectly executed wedding day. Congratulations again to Katja and Mario.

SeeClub Zuerich Rowing Photos

My friend Daniel Protz, who competed as an Olympic rower with the U.S. National Team, is coaching the SeeClub Zuerich junior team and I really enjoy watching him instill a sense of intensity in his team. It’s somewhat fitting (if you know Dan) that he’s out there coaching with a recently sustained broken back.

Graubünden Hochzeit

The wedding season is officially underway, and last weekend I kicked off with a great wedding and party in mountainous Graubünden, Switzerland. The weather was a bit uncooperative, but we made lots of great photos regardless and had a great time in the process.

Car Park Photo Shoot

Kat is working on her own modeling portfolio and I needed to get my creative juices flowing, so we rendezvoused and headed toward a location that I’ve been eyeballin’ for a while now. A grocery store parking lot here in Winterthur.
