Everyone else is sharing their “best of 2010” work, which got me thinking about my own accomplishments for the year. As I look back on 2010 I’m proud to say that a lot of progress was made, but this year it was particularly visible in my production of custom designed, hand-made wedding albums for nearly each couple that I worked with during the wedding season. Not only did the albums come out extremely well, but they were all delivered on time and brought lots of smiles to the families they documented.
For me, albums have re-introduced a tangible quality to photography that seemed to go missing ever since the darkroom became obsolete. To imagine that I’m producing a family heirloom which could be treasured for many generations is motivating, inspirational and really adds meaning to my camera and design work. Digital imaging is fantastic, no sense arguing that, but digital files themselves don’t constitute art in my book. No pun intended.
I’m looking forward to 2011 and hoping to meet more couples this year who’d like to preserve their wedding memories in the pages of a high-quality, handmade leather album. Here are some of my favorite page designs from 2010. Enjoy, and Happy New Year!
